Company History
Vector was organized in 1957 as a division of an electronic components rep firm. It's purpose was to represent the manufacturers of esoteric audio products, ala McIntosh and Bang & Olufsen. The company was incorporated in 1964 and by the early 70's the focus changed from consumer hi-fi to commercial sound and security. Ted Poulos and I are the fourth generation of ownership having purchased the company from Hal Kephart in 1996.
Ted joined the company in 1989 after spending 11 years with Rancilio Associates, a rep firm in the Midwest. I joined in the fall of 1992 and we hired Lisa Linden in the spring of 1996. Bill Ghan joined as a territory salesperson for Oregon and western Idaho in December of 2005.
I brought an extensive background in professional audio and large venue sound reinforcement contracting to Vector. I have been an owner/engineer for a commercial recording studio, a live sound engineer for major touring artists and also was the executive vice president of Proshow USA, a company that specialized in concert sound touring systems and large facility design and installation. I am a member of AES, SynAudCon and the TEF Advisory Council. I also write a regular column for Live Sound International Magazine.
Lisa also brought industry experience to Vector. She previously was the office manager for a local low voltage contractor and prior to that spent seven years as an operations assistant for the local Muzak owned office. Her responsibilities were broad in both positions. She performed as a service and installation technician for sound and CCTV systems, scheduled and dispatched service technicians, invoiced customer jobs and maintained warehouse inventory.
Bill Ghan is also an industry veteran. He worked as the General Manager of a low-voltage contracting company, was Director of Sales at TOA Electronics, Inc. and served stints at two electrical engineering firms doing low voltage system design work.
Our client base is broad and certainly diversified. We call on low voltage contractors, live sound providers, audio/visual houses, pro audio dealers and specialty systems integrators. As a service oriented firm with strong technical and computer skills we also expend efforts providing product information and design assistance to consultants, engineers and design/build firms. Our lines are widely used in many types of projects affording us excellent opportunities for cross selling. We also support our customers with integration advice, room modeling, equipment lists, TEF tuning and analysis and CAD generated system diagrams.
